TOPIC: Subaru love anyone?

Subaru love anyone? 1 year, 10 months ago #977

Well, here is a new topic i'd like to create. I see that Huck_This has a forester, and maybe other people have Subaru's, or this topic could just be post your cars!

Well, I may have the oldest Subaru ( Or car haha) here on the forum. I drive ( well 4 days on 7) a 1990 Subaru Legacy LS

4x4, 2.2L Boxer engine, auto ( ), full electric ( power window's, doors, sunroof, etc), wagon, nice sound system ( with a 12 inch Infinity sub ), custom headlights ( HID 4300 K + LED's) etc etc! Feeling is nothing comparable to my 2000 Ford Focus manual! Started with a 4wd, hate the FWD of my Focus!

So post here!

My wife and I are going to buy a new vehicle this July and it will most probably be a Forester...Just not sure if it will be a 2010 or a 2011 if the new ones are out in time.
Mmmm....Childish Shenanigans.

My 2009 Forester is a real improvement over the older Forester. There's alot more ground clearance and I find the car much more comfortable. Its a great car.

So far, I've had the car almost a year (only 11000kms). My only complaint is that the glove compartment creaks a bit and the rear hatch made squeaking noises for about a month. Both problems are minor, the hatch isn't making any more noise, but I was annoyed when the dealer couldn't even hear the noise. This is a problem that the online forums have talked about. Anyways, its minor enough that I've gotten over it.

I bought the base model with manual transmission. I got the fog lights. I tried the model with the 'moon roof', but my head touched the ceiling so it didn't fit me.

Hey Huck-This!

As I've said, my wife and I are most probably buying a 2010 (2011?) Forester - Probably the Touring model- and as it stands now, we've only test drove it once, but we liked it the most. We also test drove the XT Limited (LOVE it, but can't afford it comfortably ) and the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (would like the sound system of the Limited, but again, too $$$), as well as the Mitsubishi Outlander XLS (it was nice, but nothing "Wowed" us, so that one's out.

So Mike, seeing how the '09 and '10 are pretty much the same, what advise would you have for us regarding the Forester? Other than the 2 noises you had, what else would you mention? Anything stand out, good or bad, that has caught your attention?

Things that caught my attention?

I get a static shock sometimes when I get out of the car and touch something.

The fuel consumption gauge is about 1/2 liter per 100km off.

The passenger seat is low, especially if you like to have the driver's seat as high as possible.

The touring model with the moon roof didn't fit me well, also it takes up alot of room in the ceiling and can really get in the way if you want to load a bike or alot of cargo in the back. At least, that's what i was thinking when I was comparing the Touring model with the base model.

I think that's about it, all pretty minor stuff IMO. Its a good car, best in its category. Consumer reports rates it very high.

Now go buy one!

Thanks for the insight. The only thing that I'm now wondering about is:

bg wrote:

Better or worse than what it is telling you? Not a big deal, but it's good to know.

Other that, if these are the only things then hey...

How long have you had it? What have you done to it so far (in terms of service)?

And as far as me buying one, we're only buying it in July...I know...BOOOOO!!!

Edit: Also, how are the lights? Are they bright or not so much? I only test drove it during the day. I want the HID's of the XT (Hell, I want the XT!!!!), but I can't really afford it.
If not, maybe I'd install aftermarket HID's like Guigui...Speaking of which:

Guigui, how was it to install your HID's? Was it easy or a pain in the ass? How do you like them now that you've used them for a while?
Mmmm....Childish Shenanigans.

Well, it was rather easy, once you know how. My relay was weird, so I had to modified it so it could work. They work awesome. I might order some for my Focus , and my dad is begging me to have some on his Taurus!

I took the 4300K ones ( WHITE WHITE WHITE) because I don't wanna have the wanna-be look Mercedes. Some of my friends have some 6000, 8000 and 10 000K and they are not as bright.

I really recommend you some 4300K, they are rather easy to install, depending on the relay and everything.

There is alot of debates on buying real projector because HID's can blind people, but I aimed mine lower and is super. Sure some people don't like it, but hey.. I mean I do think I blind less than some Lexus, Mercedes, Range Rover and Acura..

Did I answer to all of your questions? If no, what would you like to know?

Guillaume

**BTW some new pics from my Suby soon, did alot of changes
**BTW2, the picture posted above are not my HID'S, they are some LED's place in the headlights.**

HID lite kits are legal to purchase but did anyone know that it's illegal to install, retrofit or alter your headlights? Not so bad here because the cops don't even know in most cases but don't drive in the states and especially down South because you will have problems. How do I know? I did enough research and developement with HID's since 1995 and worked also with some medical types from Welch Allen.
