TOPIC: I'm New!

I'm New! 1 year, 8 months ago #1711

Hello all, I guessed this was the best place to post this.

I thought i would come here and say hello. I have just recently moved to Montreal from Australia for a change of scenery and lifestyle. I will be in montreal for up to 2 years, Hopefully MTBing all summer and snowboarding all winter. I've been to a few forums from around here but haven't got the warmest of receptions, mainly because my french is extremely bad but i'm trying to learn.

I can't wait to hit the trails around quebec. I currently don't have a car but i will buy one in the coming months. So if anyone has got room for 1 more in their car it would be greatly appreciated.

I couldn't bring all my bikes(Would of loved to but shipping from Australia is just stupidly expencive!!!) So i brought the only one i could get on the plane. My '10 Intense Tracer VP, I don't actually have all the parts to finish it yet. The final parts were ordered a week ago so they should be here any week now.

This is my Tracer, it is a bit more built right now but i can't go any further with out the forks or wheels.

These are my bikes i have left at home.

Cheers Tim!

Hi Tim,

Welcome aboard!!! As for getting a ride, I am sure someone on here can give you one. We just rode Bromont yesterday and it was a blast. Keep us updated with the progrees of your bike build-up. Cheers Gary
Different dept at work + more time and a life=more riding for 2010!!!!

Hey Tim,

Welcome to Canada and the site. If you didn't get a warm reception on other sites well hang on, we're a bunch with a pretty strange sense of humour but haven't scared anyone away yet. Everyone here speaks both French and English but we tend to cary on in English more, just use what ever your more comfortable with.

What kind of riding are you looking for? Cross Country trails, Down Hill or both? Many here that can hook up with you for a lift but if you want to ride lift assisted like DH at a ski hill then that's a great way to meet a bunch.

Cheers
John

Hello Tim,

Like john said, it's a bilingual site. Use whatever language you want.

My english is 1000000x better than my french so i will stick to that.

Are most of you guys from around montreal?

I'm mainly looking for all round trail riding. I've never done a down hill before, the closest one to me in australia is around 100km away and was only open a few times a year for open days or races. The closest lift assisted place is just over 1300km drive.

Some of the photos on alleyz of east hereford look awesome.

Tim, depending on how you build that Tracer it can surely handle some mild weekend DH hills. I live out in Rigaud about 30 min. outside of Montreal towards Ottawa but ride all over and go through Montreal a lot. Most riders on this site are in the general Montreal area.

Bromont is about $41 a day with taxes but a season pass is $203 tax incl. and unlimited use for the season.

East Hereford is a place I haven't been and certainly will be planning a trip there soon.

Lol at Dundee, never been called that before but there is a first for everything. Usually get convict from people from the UK way.

I watched some of the videos put up in the bromont thread, i reckon me and the bike could handle them. A mate back in aus whos girlfriend is from quebec city said i would be selling the tracer with in a few months of getting here and buying a proper Dh bike.

I am considering getting the discounted year pass, i just need to get a car to make it totally worth while. Do you need a full face to do the blue/red DH runs?

I don't know, he's one pretty fucking big leprachaun and surely won't fit in a box of lucky charms.

Untill you get a car I can assure you that getting a lift from someone here is no problem. This place is like a second family to us and we stick together and sometimes a little too close but hey, too bad for the homophobics.
I don't think the rules at Bromont force you to wear a fullface just so long as you have a good helmet, but I REALLY DO NOT recommend doing anything extreme like DH without a fullface. You need that extra protection especially for you jaw. I have a second fullface here that I lend out and it's a small.

I have a protec classic atm. I should invest in a good full face if i will be doing to regularly. Le Yeti have the POC Cortex flow for a reasonable price.

I rode DH at Thredbo when I was in Australia in 2002. It was fun, but the bikes we used had the brakes reversed from what I'm used to. So I fell over the bars alot.

Here is where my bike is sitting at the moment. I've been told that wheels should be around a week or so. Then she will be done! Yes they are the 2011 fox forks with that fancy fang dangled coating stuff on them.
