Well, my bike is sick...

I've got a creaking noise coming from the headtube/headset area.
When I hit the brakes, it creaks one way, and then let off the brakes and put my weight down, it creaks the other direction. I've taken apart the whole front end and cleaned it (weird, I know), but the noise is still there. Really bugging me. I've only ridden this frame 3 times.
The headset is a Chris King.

Any thoughts ???

My fork crowns creak no matter what I do. I finally scored another upper crown that I'll be trying this weekend.

Also my Boxxer clicks half way into its travel....I just ignore it.

I also switched fork crowns. No change. I'm wondering if the headset is just loose enough to creak in the frame?

Maybe the stem?

My holzfeller stem needs to be cranked hard otherwise it creaks

It's hardly ever a problem these days, but it's worth looking into.

Well, I've tried everything I can think of myself, and still the same creaking noise. I'm going to bring it to the shop tomorrow and let them figure it out.. My guess, it's either the headset (Chris King - 10yr warranty) or the frame (Norco - new last summer - 5 yr warranty).

I've only done 3 rides on it since I got the new frame. and the headset has 1 real summer, and 3 rides on it.

We'll see what happens......

make sure all your stem bolt are greased, that could do a squeaking noise if not.

Any news?

I scored a lower crown that I'll be trying. My creak got better with the different upper crown, but its still there.

I now have that creaking noise!

it's the headset cup that rubs against the frame headtube! it could use some more grease...I have a brand new Cane creek 110 coming in the mail that's taking forever...!

I'll make sure it's grease properly when I replace it.

it's not damageable but just annoying as hell specially when the bike is brand new!

I guess I have been lucky in 27 years putting together bikes because not once did I get a creaking headset. Also I have always pressed in my headset cups dry with no lube at all, better cross my fingers and knock on wood having written this.

It's warrantied for 110 years, but it takes 109 years to get shipped to you.

OUCH !!!!

So I went to pick up my bike today because they said it was ready. I asked what they did. They said that all they did was grease the bikes pivot points and there were no creaks now. I tried it in store and it still creaks!!! I showed them how it creaks and they didn't hear that before...Anyways, they're going to call Norco tomorrow and see what's up. I'll know more tomorrow.

OK, right there your dealing with idiots. What store was it your going to, ABC? I need the name to make sure I avoid them like a virus. When you bring in a bike for a creaking noise near or at the head tube you DON'T GO GREASE THE PIVOTS. Now their going to cal NORCO for what? Is the mechanic in that shop only qualified to put together lego blocks? Come on can't they have more sense and remove the head set then grease the cups then reinstall? That's the first thing they should do and at this rate you'll be lucky if you get to ride this year.

ah that's the catch 109 years of shipping...hehe! seriously, I found it for way cheaper on Pricepoint at 118$CAD instead of Chain Reaction at 175$CAD, BUT it I hate the shipping coming from PricePoint with no tracking #! Chain Reaction is in UK and it's way faster and they provide a tracking #! it's just non-sense!

and you're bikeshop, me too I'm curious to ear where it is? they don't look good if you can reproduce the problem and they don't! wtf!

So I got the call today...The guy at Norco said that they don't have any replacement frames at the moment, they are aware of the situation and that it'll be at least 2-3 weeks before I get a new frame. That and I am not to ride it as it could "fail".....

So yet another new frame for me...It'll be frame number 4 that I ride, but if you count the 2 other frames last summer for the recall that weren't good, I'll be on frame number 6 !!!! Ummm.......Norco.......?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
